SC orders cricket telecast; Ten Sports hesitant Monday, March 15 2004 12:39 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
The Supreme Court today (Mar 15, 2004) directed Ten Sports to provide live telecast signals of one-day matches between India and Pakistan to Doordarshan (DD).
Keeping the Ten Sports' appeal for final hearing on March 17, the Court directed Doordarshan and Prasar Bharati to deposit Rs 10 crore with the Registrar General of the Supreme Court, pending adjudication of the dispute.
The Court directed DD to carry the signals of Ten Sports along with the advertisements given by the foreign sports channel during the live telecast of the matches.
The Taj Private (India) Ltd said that it does not own the rights over the telecast signals generated from Pakistan. It said giving simultaneous telecast feed to DD was a breach of its contract with the original telecast rights holder, Taj TV Private Ltd, Dubai and hence, expressed apprehensions that the signals of live telecast may not be shown in India at all.
