Setback to Naidu: TDP MP resigns on Telangana issue Monday, March 15 2004 12:17 Hrs (IST) Hyderabad:
In a setback to ruling TDP (Telugu Desam Party) in Telangana region ahead of elections, senior MP (Member of Parliament) G Ganga Reddy has resigned from primary membership of the party amidst indications that he might gravitate towards Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).
Reddy, who represented Nizamabad constituency in the dissolved Lok Sabha, dashed off a letter to party President and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu saying he was quitting the party protesting against "injustice" done to Nizamabad district in irrigation sector.
The party sources, however, said that Reddy was aspiring for Assembly ticket from Dichpally in the district, presently represented by School Education Minister M Venkateshwar Rao. With the party leadership rejecting his request, Reddy quit the party, sources said.
In his two-page resignation letter, Reddy trained his guns against Venkateshwar Rao saying he was ignoring the problems of the district.
"During TDP rule, Telangana region is getting a raw deal in terms of allocation of funds and developmental schemes. I had brought this problem to your notice several times in the past but nothing happened. I am convinced that justice will not be done in TDP regime," he said.
Soon after sending his resignation letter, Reddy got in touch with TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao amidst indications that he might join the Telangana party.
