Insurgents attack police commandoes in Manipur

Imphal: Insurgents triggered a powerful bomb blast injuring four police commandos and attacked a security post while one suspected activist was gunned down by Assam Rifles personnel in different incidents in Manipur today (Mar 16, 2004).

Police said four commandos were injured when a bomb went off at about 10 a m today at Nongdren village area in Manipur's Imphal East district while they were moving in a police vehicle.

The militants also opened fire at the police commandos from different sides and the encounter lasted for about 30 minutes. The militants later escaped to nearby jungles, police said.
