'Someone else in BJP moving coins for Premiership'
Sunday, March 21 2004 19:17 Hrs (IST)

Chennai: Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's remarks yesterday that he did not want to contest the coming Lok Sabha polls and was prompted to do so only due to the fear of the country sliding into anarchy, threw enough "hints" that "someone else in the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) is moving coins for Premiership", Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader M Karunanidhi said today (March 21, 2004).

"It is not an off-the-cuff remark. It is a clear hint that he has clearly understood that someone is casting a net around him," Karunanidhi said in a statement.

On Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharathi's remarks that a temple for Ram would be built in Ayodhya and that Sonia Gandhi would be invited for the "kar seva", the DMK president said these remarks were nothing but an "advance notice" that the plans of VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) and RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) would be implemented in toto if BJP is returned to power, leading to "total chaos" in the country.

On Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani's remarks that there was nothing wrong in raising the issue of foreign origin of Sonia Gandhi, Karunanidhi said, "It will only boomerang on him."
