FIR lodged, ammonium nitrate used in Poorva blast
Wednesday, March 24 2004 12:35 Hrs (IST)

Patna: The Government Railway Police today (Mar 24, 2004) registered a first information report (FIR) against unknown persons and interrogated eye-witnesses and rail staff although the forensic science laboratory (FSL) had already revealed that the substance used in the explosion in a bogie of the Poorva Express was ammonium nitrate, a less powerful explosive.

DIG (Railway) Rajesh Chandra said the GRP (Patna junction) had registered an FIR against unknown persons as some passengers, eyewitnesses, including rail staff, were subjected to interrogation in the blast believed to be the handiwork of anti-socials last night.

The FSL had also found that the explosive was ammonium nitrate and no wire was recovered from the affected S-10 compartment of the bogie in course of search last night, Chandra said, adding further investigation was on.

Seven persons were injured, three of them seriously, in an explosion in a sleeper class bogie of the Poorva express near Fatuha, about 25 kms from the Bihar's capital.

Railway sources said excepting for the two injured who were operated upon at Patna Medical College Hospital, others were discharged. The two were reported out of danger.
