A R Rehman to compose anthem for TB control Wednesday, March 24 2004 20:12 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
After giving that unforgettable "Vande Matram" composition, noted music director A R Rehman is working on an anthem to create awareness on tuberculosis in his role as global ambassador of the Stop TB Partnership.
"The song, to be ready in six months, would not be just for India but for all countries," he said today (March 24, 2004) on the occasion of the World TB Day.
Rehman said he was also composing few TV spots to spread awareness on TB.
"I am the sugar coating for a bitter medicine," Rehman said at the inauguration of the second meeting of the Stop TB Partners' Forum.
Besides, he would also undertake visits to hospitals in several countries to spread awareness.
Expressing the hope that his music would encourage people to take "an extra step" in fighting the disease, Rehman said it was a shame that people died of a disease which was curable.
"I am trying to break the hesitation which people face with respect to TB," he said, adding, "I am learning a lot and meeting a number of people committed to the cause."
One-third of the world's TB patients are in India and majority of them are poor, he noted.
