HC stays warrant against Shahrukh in cheating case Friday, March 26 2004 15:29 Hrs (IST) Mumbai:
The Bombay High Court has further stayed till April 6 a lower court order issuing bailable warrant against Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan in a cheating case filed by a real estate agent over a property transaction.
Justice Vijaya Tahil Ramani stayed the warrant on March 24 while hearing a petition filed by the actor pleading that the magistrate had exceeded his jurisdiction by issuing the bailable warrant against him.
The judge said she would examine on April 6 whether the warrant issued had legal sanction and extended the stay, which was granted earlier.
Meanwhile, the lower court, which had issued the warrant, yesterday adjourned the matter to April 8 to hear the high court's ruling.
Additional chief metropolitan magistrate, J B Pankhe had issued bailable warrant against Shahrukh Khan on January 22 in a cheating case alleging that he had not paid brokerage for the purchase of a flat two years back.
