'Trishul' test fired on second consecutive day Friday, March 26 2004 16:02 Hrs (IST) Balasore (Orissa):
For the second consecutive day, 'Trishul', India's most sophisticated surface-to-air missile was test fired from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur, about 13 kms from Balasore today (Mar 26, 2004), Defence sources said.
Indigenously developed by the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) under the integrated guided missile development programme (IGMDP), the short-range missile was test fired from a mobile launcher at 11.02 hrs (IST), the sources said.
The missile was successfully test fired from the ITR at 14.52 hrs (IST) yesterday.
The three-metre-long missile having a diameter of 200 cm can fly at supersonic speed and has a sensitive radar altimetre and height lock-loop control on board, which helps it to skim over the sea at very low altitude.
The solid fuel propelled missile has a triple battlefield role for the Army, Air Force and Navy and has a range of nine km with the capacity to carry a payload of 15 kgs, the sources said.
