Saturday, March 27 2004 20:50 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: In a boost to the ongoing peace process in Jammu and Kashmir, the Centre today (March 27, 2004) assured the Hurriyat Conference to check Human Rights violations allegedly by security forces and agreed to speed up review of cases of detenues, as both sides decided to hold talks on "substantive issues" in June after a new Government is formed.

After holding second round of talks with a Hurriyat delegation lasting two hours, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani told reporters that a new Government would take over in Delhi by later part of May, after the Lok Sabha elections and tentatively the next meeting with APHC can take place in June. It may be the first meeting where substantive issues can be discussed.
