'Al Qaeda intelligence chief killed in operations' Monday, March 29 2004 21:16 Hrs (IST) Islamabad:
Pakistan today (Mar 29, 2004) said that the chief of al-Qaeda's intelligence wing, Abdullah has been killed and the terror network's Uzbek Commander, Tahir Yuldazev injured in the recent military operations against the foreign militant in tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.
Defence spokesman, Maj Gen Shoukat Sultan told reporters that intelligence reports and radio intercepts revealed that Abdullah was killed in the fortnight long military operations conducted by Pakistan Army in South Wazristan in which 113 persons including 46 Army personnel were killed.
Twenty-six Pakistani military personnel were injured in the operations, launched on March 16 against the militants believed to be over 500, holed up in mud forts in the remote tribal belt near Afghan borders.
Sultan said barring the name, at present not many details were available about Abdullah, whom he described as chief of al-Qaeda's intelligence wing.
He said intelligence reports also revealed "number 10 in the al-Qaeda hierarchy" and its Uzbek Commander Yuldazhev was injured in the operations.
