Laloo-Paswan 'secular alliance' to campaign jointly Monday, March 29 2004 14:12 Hrs (IST) Patna:
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Laloo Prasad Yadav and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader Ramvilas Paswan would undertake a joint campaign for the candidates of "secular alliance" in Bihar.
They have decided to embark on a joint campaign to wipe out the communal forces in Bihar, the two leaders asserted after holding an hour-long meeting at a hotel to discuss the electoral strategy.
Under the seat-sharing agreement, RJD is contesting 26 Lok Sabha seats, while it has allotted eight seats to LJP, four to Congress and one each to the CPM (Communist Party of India-Marxist) and the NCP (Nationalist Congress Party).
Referring to JD-U's (Janata Dal-United) announcement that the Railway Minister Nitish Kumar would contest the elections from Barh as well as Nalanda, Yadav and Paswan said Kumar had decided to contest from Nalanda as the independent MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) Surajbhan, who had helped Kumar scrape through by a margin of over 1,300 votes in 1999, has parted company with the Minister.
Surajbhan, who had since joined LJP, is the official candidate of LJP from Balia Lok Sabha constituency.
