I've come to win hearts, not polls: Rahul Gandhi
Tuesday, March 30 2004 13:37 Hrs (IST)

Amethi: Rahul Gandhi today (Mar 30, 2004) said that he was in politics to do "dil ki rajniti" (politics of heart) and to establish a "one-to-one relationship with people".

"I believe in politics of the heart and have come to win hearts, not election," Rahul told reporters in an informal meet with them at Munshiganj guest house.

Rahul, who is currently on a two-day visit to the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency said that his aim was to bring people together and not divide them.

On the "feel good factor" propagated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he said even the developed countries thrive for more and more development, but "they (BJP) claim we have developed fully".

Rahul said his immediate aim was to win the election from Amethi and to ensure development of the area.

To a question, he said the response he got from the people of Amethi was overwhelming.

"I had come here with my father and now seeing the response his memories have come back to me. I miss him very much," Rahul said.

To another question, he said his entire family had been under attack from different quarters, an oblique reference to his mother Sonia Gandhi's foreign origin issue raised by the BJP. But, Rahul did not attach much importance to it.
