Nobel theft: WB police still groping in the dark! Tuesday, March 30 2004 14:54 Hrs (IST) Kolkata:
Even after five days of the Tagore memorabilia heist, the West Bengal police are still groping in the dark, with no definite clue to the shocking burglary at Bichitra in Shantiniketan, which housed the museum.
The Central Investigation Department (CID) of the State police has so far collected fingerprint samples of at least 90 suspects, but none have matched those collected from the scene of the crime at Bichitra, sources at the Crime Records Bureau (CRB) said today (Mar 30, 2004).
He said at least 26 fingerprints collected from Bichitra and those of the suspects provided by the CID were being compared for a lead.
To a query, the CRB source said there was a possibility that most fingerprints found at Bichitra might be of those working there, but still "we are matching them with the fingerprints of the suspects".
The CID has been raiding nearby district and picking up people, mainly antique dealers. Their fingerprints are being sent to CRB for matching.
