Pak to participate in dialogue with 'full sincerity'
Friday, April 2 2004 16:17 Hrs (IST)

Islamabad: Notwithstanding President Pervez Musharraf's remarks on the peace process with India, Pakistan has said it would participate in the dialogue with full sincerity and try its best to make it successful.

"There is no question mark over the dialogue on Kashmir and Pakistan would participate in the process with full sincerity and try its best to make it successful," Foreign Office Spokesman Masood Khan told a local TV channel last night (Apr 1, 2004).

"The real challenge is to make Indo-Pak dialogue result-oriented and purposeful and General Musharraf had stressed this aspect in an interactive programme on PTV on March 30," he said, adding the confidence building measures were moving ahead, but the composite dialogue should be result-oriented.

Musharraf, in the programme had said that if there was no forward movement in the dialogue on Kashmir by July-August, "I am not in the process."

The spokesman welcomed the statement of Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani that Indo-Pak problems including the Kashmir issue could be resolved through talks. "This is a good, positive statement... such statements are welcome and endorse Pakistan's stance," Khan said.

About Advani's remarks that both countries should pursue the direction of the dialogue process decided by their Foreign Secretaries, Khan said, "Pakistan endorses this position and is fully prepared to take the dialogue process forward."
