Krishna flays Centre for giving a 'raw deal' to K'taka Saturday, April 3 2004 16:10 Hrs (IST)
Bijapur (Karnataka):
Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna, continuing his attack on the Centre for allegedly giving a "raw deal" to the State on various issues including devolution of funds, today (Apr 3, 2004) declared that the Congress would launch a "big fight" against it after forming Government in the coming elections.
Reiterating his charge that the Centre continued to meet "step- motherly" treatment to Karnataka on various issues including extending of assistance to tackle drought, devolution of funds or according approvals to development projects, he said, "If need be, I will take recourse to Supreme Court to fight against the injustice done to Karnataka."
Hitting out at the Centre for delaying clearances for the Bangalore International Airport project, ignoring the repeated pleas for food grains to take up scarcity relief operations and meagre devolution of funds, he accused the centre of "picking holes on whatever the State Government did".
Referring to the Supreme Court verdict upholding Karnataka Government action of banning VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) International Secretary Praveen Togadia from addressing a rally at Mangalore, Krishna hailed it as a "Landmark" judgement as it would further strengthen the secularism of the country.
The verdict would also give State Governments authority to prevent anyone who tries to deliberately indulge in acts that would disturb communal harmony, he said.
