Nobel heist: Possible place of planning located Sunday, April 4 2004 20:41 Hrs (IST)
Santiniketan:
An area around the SAIL Guest House here could be the place where the planning of the theft of Rabindranath Tagore's Nobel medal and other articles had been made, a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) press release said today (April 4, 2004).
The place was spotted by police sniffer dog "Rohan", the release, distributed by the Visva-Bharati, said.
After smelling a recovered stolen item - an ivory work on a wooden stand - the dog led the investigating officials to a broken window and a wire fence, which was cut, leading to the guest house, the release said.
It was also possible that the criminals had left the area by the road running in front of the guest house, it said.
The CBI officials were of the belief that the tools used to cut the lock of the museum window and the wire fence were the same, it said.
The entire area of Uttarayan complex, housing the museum, had been searched by the CBI and Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) officials.
Meanwhile, highly-placed CBI sources said in New Delhi that a few persons detained on the suspicion of their involvement were being questioned by the agency which was concentrating on two specific leads developed during the probe.
