Advani lauds Bhutan for checking ULFA terrorism Monday, April 5 2004 09:31 Hrs (IST)
Etawah:
Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani today (Apr 4, 2004) said that India was indebted to Bhutan for smashing terrorist bases in that country and also credited the Vajpayee Government with bringing a positive turn around in the Jammu and Kashmir talks.
"India is indebted to Bhutan as its King led the operations against ULFA (United Liberation Front of Assam) in the country despite it not being a militarily strong nation," Advani said at a rally as part of his Bharat Uday Yatra in the Samajwadi party stronghold.
The ULFA, which used to terrorise people in Assam operated from its bases in the Himalayan Kingdom but after the great support from Bhutan Government, the terrorist problems in the Northeast have come down, he said.
On Jammu and Kashmir, the Deputy Prime Minister said that the Vajpayee Government had brought about a positive turn in resolving the Kashmir issue where the talks with Hurriyat Conference were moving forward.
"We are aware that terrorists are still there but we have been able to keep them in check," Advani said.
He came down heavily on the Mulayam Singh Yadav Government in Uttar Pradesh and said it had failed to provide good governance to the people of the State.
Later in Kanpur, he sought a decisive mandate for the Vajpayee Government in order to complete the ambitious golden quadrilateral and Rs. five lakh sixty thousand crore inter-linking of rivers projects.
Asserting that the coming Lok Sabha polls were not an ordinary election, Advani said people should vote for making the country a developed nation by 2020.
