'Laloo arresting me would be a favour, but he won't' Wednesday, April 7 2004 11:58 Hrs (IST)
Kushinagar (UP):
Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani today (Apr 7, 2004) held former Bihar Chief Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav "responsible" for bringing down the V P Singh Government at the Centre in 1990 and hopes that the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Government in the State would not do the "big favour" again.
"I believe that Yadav had done a big favour to national politics by arresting me at Samastipur on way to Ayodhya from Somnath. Otherwise, the Central Government would not have been brought down," he told reporters.
"It was only after the arrest that we withdrew support to the Janata Dal Government," he said.
"Had it not been for the arrest, we would have continued our support to the Government. And even after reaching Ayodhya I would have regretted the continuance of the Government under V P Singh," Advani said.
On whether Bihar Government headed by Yadav's wife Rabri Devi would arrest him while his 'Bharat Uday Yatra' pass through the State, he said it would again be "an honour and a big favour, but I don't think they would do it".
