Surpassing even Govinda in terms of personal wealth, silver screen idol of yesteryears Sunil Dutt is the richest of all contesting Lok Sabha candidates from Mumbai, with net worth at over Rs 22 crore.
So far, Govinda had topped the 'riches' list with own worth pegged at Rs 13.5 crore, but Dutt surpassed him after he filed property details yesterday (Apr 7, 2004).
Maharashtra Minister Eknath Gaekwad, who is pitted against Lok Sabha speaker Manohar Joshi in North-Central Mumbai Lok Sabha seat, continues to remain 'poor' among the entire lot with a net worth of just Rs 19 lakh.
These interesting revelations have come out in the affidavits filed by the candidates for the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra at the time of filing nominations.
Lok Sabha speaker Manohar Joshi and Union Minister Ram Naik, do not own a single vehicle and film star Govinda owns more jewellery than his wife.
Two-time MP Sunil Dutt, who is contesting against Sena Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Nirupam from North-West Mumbai seat, possesses immovable property to the tune of Rs 18.82 crore, cash Rs four lakh, besides gold jewellery worth Rs 18.45 lakh, and diamonds worth Rs 5.81 lakh inherited from late Nargis Dutt.
Govinda owns property worth Rs 13.5 crore, that includes two bungalows at Juhu (Rs 1.43 crore) and Madh Island (Re one crore), own jewellery worth Rs 1.85 crore and wife's jewellery of Rs 32 lakh.
Twenty-seven-year old Milind Deora, son of former Maharasthra Congress Committee (MRCC) chief, Murli Deora, who is contesting his maiden election from South Mumbai seat and is pitted against Union Minister Jaywantiben Mehta, owns property worth Rs 4.98 crore, that includes investment of Rs 57 lakh in securities.
He, however, does not own any immovable property, the younger Deora has declared in his affidavit.
Former MP and MRCC President Gurudas Kamat declared assets of Rs 3.35 crore that includes immovable property at Shahpur, Pune, Worli, Chembur and Tamil Nadu.
Kamat has bank deposits of Rs 19.35 lakh and 400 grams gold.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) legislator Sachin Ahir - who is contesting from South-Central Mumbai seat, has cash of Rs 2.37 lakh, deposits of Rs 51 lakh, bonds and debentures of Rs 15.19 lakh, other securities of Rs 11.38 lakh, loans and advances of Rs 51.90 lakh and immovable property worth over Rs 24 lakh.
Five-time MP and Union Minister Ram Naik has invested Rs 15 lakh in fixed deposits, Rs 11.21 lakh in securities, and owns three apartments in Mumbai worth Rs 84 lakh. He also accrues Rs 30,000 as rent form one of his flats.
