US forces, insurgents clash in Iraq; 30 killed

Fallujah (Iraq): Thirty Iraqis were killed and 25 wounded during overnight clashes between insurgents and US forces who used both tanks and warplanes in the flashpoint city of Fallujah, West of Baghdad, hospital sources and residents said today (April 7, 2004).

The casualties fell in the Julan and Dhubbat neighbourhoods when US tanks opened fire, a source at the local dispensary.

Residents said warplanes also intervened.
