Net matchmaker Shaadi.com launches Shaadi Point
Thursday, April 8 2004 19:29 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: After adding a new dimension to the Internet in India, Shaadi.com,the country's largest matrimonial service provider has now launched Shaadi Point,a one-stop-solution-centre for prospective brides and grooms, that is expected to revolutionise the Indian wedding industry with a well conceived franchise model.

A brick and mortar version of the portal, Shaadi.com,that provides a host of services including access to the largest database of eligible singles in the country, Shaadi Point has set up its first centre at Dadar.

Says Anupam Mittal, Chairman and CEO, of the People Group that owns Shaadi.com, "The first phase is to rollout in the Western Region with around 10 Shaadi Point within six months. Subsequently we plan to take the concept nationwide with 250 centres."

So what makes Shaadi Point a viable business proposition? According to Anupam, the product offers services that are way beyond the reach of the quintessential local matchmaker (read marriage bureau) or the newspaper matrimonial column. Shaadi Point brings to its customers advantages of reach, privacy and personal service that no existing match making solutions can provide.

Besides match making the business also plans to offer services such as astrology, pre-marital workshops, detective services and wedding planning in the second phase of the rollout. In fact, there is already in place, a distinguished panel that includes beauty specialist Jamuna Pai, fashion designers Anita Dongre and Payal Singhal, legal counsel Monica Parekh and clinical psychologist Dr Laura Vaz.

So, what is the difference between Shaadi.com and Shaadi Point? Anupam explains-'Shaadi.com is a self-service web portal for people's matrimonial needs. It is the largest matrimonial site in the world and caters primarily to single Indians. On the other hand Shaadi Point will operate through a network of physical locations that will provide services to parents of singles.

While on Shaadi.com, 75% of our members are people looking for matches for themselves and 25% are parents looking for matches for their children, at Shaadi Point the services have been developed keeping parents in mind. Our focus is on parents looking for matches for their children and we expect 75% of our business to come from them in this case.'
