BJP has a vision, Cong & RJD have an illusion: Naidu Friday, April 9 2004 09:59 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Claiming that no party other than Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) of Laloo Prasad Yadav had given total support to the Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president M Venkaiah Naidu today (Apr 9, 2004) expressed fears that the two parties would together "convert the whole of India into Bihar".
"Except RJD, the other allies of Congress are all in the coalition for their own gains and are likely to desert it soon after the Lok Sabha polls," Naidu told reporters in New Delhi after inaugurating an election office of BJP candidate for South Delhi Vijay Kumar Malhotra.
"However, RJD chief Laloo Prasad Yadav is fully supporting the Congress so that they can together convert the whole of India into Bihar," he added.
Naidu said the Congress was suffering from an "illusion" that it would return to power.
"We (BJP) have a vision, they have an illusion," he said.
The BJP chief said elimination of queues and shortages were among the greatest achievements of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government.
"Now there are no waiting lists for gas or telephone connections and kerosene is available freely. Think of the condition before Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee assumed office," he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Malhotra, who represented South Delhi in the just dissolved Lok Sabha also, said he was "glad" that Congress had decided to field a "weak candidate" like R K Anand from the constituency.
"In 1999, the voters had helped me comprehensively defeat even a prominent candidate like Manmohan Singh of Congress, so I expect a landslide in my favour this time," he said.
