JKLF flays Pak for Human Rights violations in PoK Friday, April 9 2004 11:23 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), one of the main separatist organisations in Jammu and Kashmir, has come down heavily on Pakistan for denying the basic rights to people in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) and areas of Gilgit and Baltistan illegally annexed by Islamabad.
Speaking at the 60th United Nations sub-commission on Human Rights being held at Geneva, chairman of JKLF's diplomatic wing Shabir Chaudhary said the leadership emerging in PoK comprise only of those committed to making Kashmir a part of Pakistan.
"The majority of the people, who disagree with the stipulation that they should accept accession to Pakistan, are made to suffer in different ways including denial of employment even in private enterprise," Chaudhury said.
Referring to Gilgit and Baltistan, he said the rights of these people were not even equal to that of people in PoK.
"The political leadership of Gilgit and Baltistan were unanimous that they were not a part of Pakistan," the senior JKLF leader said.
Chaudhury quoted the letter of chairman of International Kashmir Alliance Syed Nazir Geelani to the UN Secretary General saying, "The Government at Muzaffarabad (in PoK) remains a serious breach of its provisional declaration of Pakistan as members have to take an oath that they would work for Kashmir's accession to Pakistan."
The JKLF leader supported the electoral process saying, "It is a process that could help people to elect their representative who could work for the welfare of the people."
