Vajpayee raising Bofors issue deliberately: Sonia
Saturday, April 10 2004 19:25 Hrs (IST)

Raipur: Accusing Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee of raking up the Bofors issue, Congress president Sonia Gandhi today (Apr 10, 2004) said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was raising it at the time of elections as the saffron party has no answer for unemployment, problems of farmers, that they have thrust on the country.

"The timing of this (Bofors issue) being brought up again speaks for itself," she told reporters in Raipur at the Mana Airport reacting to the latest controversy over the issue.

Elections 2004-The Drama unfolds...

"This bogie of Bofors has been raised for last 18 years and it was thrust on my husband, now on me very conveniently and God knows one day to my great grand children," Gandhi, who was on a day-long campaign for her party in Chhattisgarh for April 20 Lok Sabha polls said.

"The Government is not responding and has no answer to all the problems the country is facing. It has no answer for all the unemployment, problems of the farmers and for all the ruin (barbadi) that they have thrust upon this country," she said adding, "So what else to do, but to attack the Nehru-Gandhi family and me in particular."
