NGO chief, 3 others allegedly attacked by VHP Sunday, April 11 2004 18:51 Hrs (IST)

Three persons, including founder of a non-Governmental organisation (NGO), Shabnam Hashmi, who were on a nationwide mission to "motivate" voters, were allegedly roughed up by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists in Vadodara city today (Apr 11, 2004), police said.
Hashmi, chief of Act Now for Harmony and Democracy (ANHAD), who led a group to urge voters to elect a Government that "did not promote communal hatred' said the VHP activists who barged into the venue of the press conference "manhandled her, assaulted her group members and threatened to rape and kill her in the same manner in which Muslims were killed and raped during the post-Godhra communal riots in the regime of Modi."
Hashmi has filed a first information report (FIR) at Sayajigunj police station.
Meanwhile, two VHP activists were arrested for allegedly "manhandling" and "threatening" Hashmi, police said.
