The President, Vice-President and Prime Minister today (Apr 12, 2004) greeted the people on the occasion of Baisakhi, marking the beginning of the traditional New Year and coinciding with the harvest season, and wished them prosperity, joy and peace.
In his message, President A P J Abdul Kalam said, "May this festival, which marks the beginning of the harvest season herald peace, happiness and prosperity.
"On this happy day let us open our hearts and share our happiness with one and all, especially the poor and the needy," he said.
Offering his greetings, Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat said the festival vividly captures the true spirit of the country's composite culture and celebrated with great fervour and enthusiasm.
Greeting the people on the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi and Mesadi, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee said the harvest festivals symbolise happiness and prosperity.
"It is the time for us to express thanks and gratitude to our farmers who toil throughout the year to ensure that our granaries are full and there is no scarcity anywhere. May these festivals usher in prosperity, joy and peace for every household," he added.
