US posing hurdle before Indian BPO sector: Advani
Tuesday, April 13 2004 22:28 Hrs (IST)

Sambalpur (Orissa): Taking exception to the US ban on outsourcing, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani today (April 13, 2004) said the biggest proponent of globalisation was posing hurdle before the Indian BPO (business process outsourcing) sector.

"The US asked developing countries to go for globalisation and adopt free market practices. But now the Americans themselves are banning outsourcing on the plea that the US was losing jobs to India," Advani told an election rally on the penultimate day of his 33-day Bharat Uday Yatra.

"However, we must not forget that these big American companies are not doing any favour to India. They are here only because outsourcing these jobs to the country is cost-effective and helps them make huge profits," Advani said.
