Tuesday, April 13 2004 19:23 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: President A P J Abdul Kalam today (Apr 13, 2004) congratulated Infosys Technologies for crossing the USD one billion mark in revenues and urged the software major to contribute in areas of tele-education, tele-medicine and e-governance.

"I am delighted to see Infosys becoming a billion dollar company today. This has been achieved against the intense global competition in the information and communication technology sector. I am confident that Infosys has a tremendous future with respect to national development," Kalam said in a message to Infosys.

"It can contribute in areas of tele-education, tele-medicine and e-governance. All these areas are vital for ensuring prosperity of the 700 million people living in six hundred thousand villages," Kalam said.

"It is a wonderful achievement. In a sense, it signifies the coming of age of the Indian IT industry which contributes so much today to India's GDP (Gross Domestic Product), to our exports and to the image that enjoys in the world. I am confident that Infosys and the Indian IT industry will grow from strength to strength," Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee said.
