Jogi 'out of danger' and showing signs of improvement

Mumbai: Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi who underwent surgery on Sunday (Apr 11, 2004) for his spine injury is "out of danger and is showing sign of improvement", Dr C E Deopujari, a neurosurgeon attending on him said today (Apr 13, 2004).

Jogi, who was admitted to Bombay Hospital following a car accident, is improving and is fully conscious, Dr Deopujari said adding he is talking and is "willing to get out of bed".

The doctors will be assisting Jogi "in making him get out of the bed for sometime today" he said adding the patient is very "cheerful".

Dr Deopujari said they had removed the life support system completely as "all his health parameters are fine".

"We hope to mobilise him as soon as we can," he said.

The movement of his hands have improved and the sensation on his legs also showed good improvement. Jogi was seriously injured when the car carrying him on campaigning dashed against a tree at Gariabandh, about 130 kms from Raipur.

Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) general secretary Mehttar Lal Sahu, accompanying Jogi in the car, and the driver were also critically injured in the accident, when the 59-year-old leader was on way to Deobhang from Rajim for an early morning meeting the April 20 polls in Mahasamund constituency.

Jogi suffered fractures and head injuries.
