You have the power to change Govts: Sonia Gandhi Wednesday, April 14 2004 22:11 Hrs (IST)
Bhuj (Guj):
Congress President Sonia Gandhi today (Apr 14, 2004) told the people of earthquake ravaged Bhuj that "they have the power to change Governments" and urged them to "vote for one that could provide them jobs and security".
Addressing a public meeting on the second leg of her whirlwind tour of Gujarat, Gandhi said, "it is Congress which had served the people and worked for the area's progress after the devastating quake of 2001."
Her party had provided relief and rehabilitation aid to the people after the quake, she said.
Urging people to vote out the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA (National Democratic Alliance) Government at the Centre she accused them of being a 'jan virodhi sarkar (anti-people Government)'.
"This election is the time to ask the Government to file a detailed account of what they have done during the last five years," she said.
Gandhi also lauded the Supreme Court's recent judgement in the Best Bakery case and said, "It was an example that people can now put their trust in the judiciary".
Earlier, she paid floral tributes to Dr B R Ambedakar and garlanded his photo on the occasion of his birth anniversary.
In her brief address Gandhi highlighted unison within the Congress and said, "the party also always helped to unite people".
After addressing the meeting she left by road for Jamnagar. Later she would address a meeting at Modasa in Sabarkantha Lok Sabha segment in North Gujarat, Bodeli in Chhota Udipur and leave for Delhi from Vadodara.
