NLFT insurgents for peace talks, meet Advani today

New Delhi: In a major breakthrough, a prominent North Eastern insurgent group National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) today (Apr 15, 2004) agreed to start peace talks with the Government and suspend its violent activities, sources said.

Two factions of the NLFT, one led by Nayan Basi Jamatia and the other by Montu Koloi, today met Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani and had a 30-minute discussion with him at the North Block, the sources said.

The meeting was attended by Intelligence Bureau chief K P Singh and top Home Ministry officials.

Tripura Government was also involved in the consultation process to bring the two groups to the negotiating table, the sources said, adding the peace process would begin today.
