It's CBI's duty to get to the bottom of Bofors: PM
Thursday, April 15 2004 17:24 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Observing that a debate is on about whether the "facts" in the Bofors case that have recently come up are actually new, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has said it is Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)'s duty to get to the bottom of it.

"Currently a debate is on about whether the facts (in the Bofors case) which have come up are new or not. However, it is the duty of the CBI to get to the bottom of it," he said in an interview to 'Dainik Jagran'.

He was replying to a question whether CBI would investigate the new facts that have surfaced.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders had demanded that Congress president Sonia Gandhi be questioned in the light of media reports which quoted former Bofors investigating officer alleging links between key accused and Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi and Gandhi in the Bofors case.
