Pak Prez General Musharraf seeks votes for BJP!! Sunday, April 18 2004 12:41 Hrs (IST)
Pune:
How would the people react if Pakistan President General Pervez Mushharaf, sporting his martial dress with medal and stars on his lapel comes out of his car and starts waving to the people?
And what would be their reaction if the General gives them a salute and asks them to vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Lok Sabha elections for Indo-Pak unity and peace?
This is precisely what Captain Deepak Divekar, who has an uncanny resemblance to Musharraf, is doing in Aundh area of the city evoking the feelings of shock, surprise and amusement.
So perfect is his resemblance that if two pictures one of Musharraf and other of Divekar in uniform is kept side by side it will be difficult to identify which is the real Mushharaf.
Divekar said that he realised that he resembled the Pakistani President when one of his friend observed his close resemblance. "I used to have a beard. But when I removed it a the advise of my friend I noticed that I have features that closely resembled Pervez Musharraf," he added.
Impressed by his uncanny looks resembling Musharraf, a film director Sanjeev Puri made "Agnipankh," a 1971 true story of three Indian Air Force pilots who escaped from Pakistan jail with Divekar playing the role of Musharraf. Though the film flopped in the box office, it gave Divekar an instant recognition.
