Grenade explosion: Farooq Abdullah escapes unhurt

Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) leader Farooq Abdullah today (Apr 19, 2004) escaped a bid on his life when militants threw a grenade on his motorcade in Badgam district, which exploded in the air, but caused no injuries.

Militants fired a rifle grenade on Abdullah's motorcade in Sonargund village when he was heading for Raithan village to address an election meeting around 14.00 hrs (IST) official sources said.

However, the grenade exploded in mid-air and after the NC leader's motorcade had passed, without causing any casualty, they said.

Abdullah reached Raithan safely, the sources said.
