SP not to field candidate against Rahul in Amethi

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) today (Apr 19, 2004) announced that it would not field its candidate from Amethi Lok Sabha constituency from where Rahul Gandhi is contesting elections but its candidate from Rae Bareli would remain in the fray.

"We have blessed Rahul without any pre-condition by not putting up our candidate from Amethi," SP's general secretary Amar Singh said in a press conference.

Referring to Rae Bareli LS constituency from where All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi is contesting, Singh said, "She changed her seat without informing us."
