Yerran Naidu escapes assassination bid by naxals Monday, April 19 2004 10:28 Hrs (IST)

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader K Yerran Naidu escaped an assassination bid by People's War Group (PWG) naxalites in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh late last night(April 18, 2004), police said.
Naidu escaped with minor injuries in the landmine blast triggered by the ultras near Singapuram village, police said this morning.
However, his two gunmen and driver sustained serious injuries in the blast.
Naidu, who was discharged from hospital this morning, was still in a state of shock, according to reports reaching here.
The blast occurred when Naidu was returning to Srikakulam from Tekkali as yesterday was last date for election campaign for the first phase of election on April 20.
After the incident, the TDP leaders who were accompanying him immediately shifted Naidu to Srikakulam Government Hospital.
His vehicle was badly damaged in the landmine explosion, police said.
Naidu is seeking re-election from Srikakulam constituency.
