Tripura Governor satisfied over NLFT peace accord Monday, April 19 2004 16:53 Hrs (IST)
Agartala:
Tripura Governor D N Sahay today (Apr 19, 2004) expressed his deep satisfaction at the decision of homecoming of the two factions of banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), who signed a tripartite peace agreement with the Centre on April 15 in Delhi.
"This is the victory of good sense," he said adding that the misguided youths have understood the futility that insurgency cannot be a viable option for achieving the goal.
However, NLFT bidding farewell to the arms would not solve the problem of the State, Sahay said adding that the other insurgent groups should also join the mainstream so that the people of the State could receive the fruits of development.
Hence, the other banned insurgent outfit the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) also have to come overground to join the mainstream of life and to develop the State economically, culturally and democratically, the Governor said.
He said, "I earnestly appeal to all the insurgent outfits to shun the path of violence, lay arms, and lead a normal life adding his Government and the Centre would always welcome the homecoming of the other insurgents."
The Governor, who played a major role in bringing the two outfits into the negotiating table, said that it is the coordinated effort by the State and the Central Government as a result of which they agreed to come to normal life.
"But we are not complacent, we have to bring the other groups too into negotiating table," said Sahay.
He appreciated Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, DGP G M Srivastav and other police officials for their urge and sincere effort to bring the outfits into the negotiating table.
