Cash for warrants scam: Hearing on April 27 Monday, April 19 2004 16:51 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
The Supreme Court today (Apr 19, 2004) fixed April 27 for deciding the fate of bailable warrants issued against the President and Chief Justice of India by an Ahmedabad Metropolitan Magistrate.
The bench comprising of Justice N Santosh Hegde, Justice S B Sinha and Justice S H Kapadia said, "Since the compliant is fictitious and the order is a judicial order, it will have to be set aside following the legal procedure."
The court fixed April 27 after Solicitor General Kirit N Raval submitted that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has completed its probe into the sting operation conducted by a Zee TV journalist that exposed corruption in lower judiciary in Gujarat.
Amicus curiae Harish Salve suggested certain measures to avoid recurrence of such incidents in future.
He submitted number of judges should be increased and there should be mechanism to examine each and every warrant issued by trial courts.
