BJP has become a slave to the Sangh Parivar: Sonia Tuesday, April 20 2004 20:50 Hrs (IST)
Mangalore:
Lashing out at Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Congress president Sonia Gandhi today (Apr 20, 2004) accused him of "doublespeak" and said his seeking votes for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rather than for all National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners reflected his "real intention" to install his party Government at the Centre.
Addressing election meetings in Mangalore and in Chikkodi and Chikamagalur, Gandhi charged that the BJP had become a "slave" to the Sangh Parivar and joining hands with communal forces, it had "sown the seeds of venom" in the society.
"Congress does not have trust in Vajpayee, who leads the coalition but seeks votes for the BJP," she said during campaign for the second phase of Lok Sabha and Assembly polls.
At Chikkodi in Belgaum district, Gandhi accused Vajpayee of "doublespeak" and said he sometimes spoke of lofty ideas like "raj dharma" and at the same time, praised those who had destroyed the ideals of our society and politics.
"On one hand, he (Vajpayee) heads a coalition Government and just two days ago, he has asked the people to support only BJP," she said, as she continued her tirade against the NDA Government for its "wrong policies".
The biggest sufferers of the NDA Government were farmers, she told the meeting in the sugar belt in Belgaum district bordering Maharashtra.
"Even then Vajpayee finds everything being good. He does not find anything amiss. He does not find any suffering among the people. I do not know, when he says something, what he speaks and what he does."
