Curfew relaxed in Hardwar, situation under control Thursday, April 22 2004 17:37 Hrs (IST)

Curfew was today (Apr 22, 2004) relaxed in phases in parts of the holy city where the situation was under control after yesterday's (Apr 21) mob violence in which one person was killed and nearly 100 were injured.
Deputy Inspector General of police Ashok Kumar said the situation in the city was under control and no untoward incident was reported.
Curfew was relaxed for an hour beginning 4 p m at Bhimgoda and from 5 p m in Kotwali area, he said.
Heavy police deployment continued in sensitive areas, Kumar said adding that pilgrims visited parts of the city, which were not under curfew.
The district administration held talks with members of the trading community to help peace return to the city, he said.
Violence broke out with police and traders clashing over an eve-teasing incident allegedly involving a policeman.
Three policemen have been suspended and an inquiry ordered into the incident.
