ATTF fires at polling booth; renews boycott call

Agartala: The banned All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) renewed the poll boycott call in Tripura and opened fire at a booth leading to an encounter with security forces soon after polling began at 07:00 hours (IST) today (April 22, 2004).

The president of Tripura People's Democratic Front (TPDF), the political wing of ATTF, Ranjit Debbarma appealed to the people to respond to their poll boycott call because it was ''a farce''.

He did not explain why the poll was held as ''a farce''.

There was an encounter between ATTF and Assam Rifles in Mandai area when the ultras were moving in the area after opening fire at Dhanaipara school booth.

However, there was no casualty in the side of Assam Rifles and no voter was injured in the incident.
