Uma develops chest pain, to undergo check up at Nasik Thursday, April 22 2004 22:13 Hrs (IST)
Mumbai/Nasik:
A helicopter carrying Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti, made an emergency landing in Ahmednagar district this evening (Apr 22, 2004) after the firebrand Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader developed "chest pain" while on way to Thane district, party sources said.
Bharti had addressed poll rallies at Aurangabad and took off to attend a poll rally of Union Minister Ram Naik at Dahisar, when she reportedly felt "chest pain" and asked the chopper commander to make an emergency landing, police sources said.
She will undergo cardiac check up at Nasik late tonight, sources said.
After the chopper landed near Akole village in Ahmednagar district of Western Maharashtra, party workers alerted local doctors, but the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister reportedly expressed her desire to move to Nasik and get examined, party sources said.
She later left for Nasik, some 140-kms from Akole, by road.
Meanwhile, cardiologists at Raje Bahadur Hospital in Nasik have kept the cardiac ICU ready and will examine Bharti for cardiac problem, if any, sources said, adding that party workers accompanying Bharti in the entourage have said that her condition was "stable" now.
The sudden change in the Madhya Pradesh CM's schedule and the emergency landing, sent alarm bells ringing in the district administration at Bhayander, where Bharti was scheduled to land.
Later, authorities traced her chopper at Akole and established contact with the commander and workers accompanying her, police sources said.
