Cong will stoop to any level for power: Dattatreya
Saturday, April 24 2004 12:32 Hrs (IST)

Vijayawada: Alleging that Congress would "stoop to any level to gain power", the Union Minister for Urban Development and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Bandaru Dattatreya today (Apr 24, 2004) said that it was "clearly reflected in its readiness to go in for an alliance with an insignificant party like Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in Andhra Pradesh".

Dattatreya, who is to participate in a cycle rally for Vijayawada (East) BJP candidate, said that TRS-Congress alliance was "unholy" and not political.

He said in the first phase of poll itself BJP had clear winning chances in the State, and added that out of five Lok Sabha seats, BJP could easily win four and out of seventeen Assembly seats it could knock off fourteen.

"Whatever we get in the second phase, would be a bonus for the party," he added.

Dattatreya said there was no need for Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to have BJP in its ministry, "it could alone form the Government".

He said that there was possibility of BJP winning the Hyderabad seat due to various developmental activities taken up by the Centre and added that NDA would make inroads into certain areas where it would work for linking up rural areas.

On anti-incumbency factor in the State, he denied it adding that TDP has been doing well in every sector with commitment.

If BJP-led NDA comes to power, it would give top priority to inter-linking of rivers to solve water problem, he added.

On Congress criticising BJP's "India Shining" campaign, he said, "When in fifty years Congress could not solve people's problems, how do they expect us to solve them in five years?"
