Chandrababu rules out possibility of Third Front Saturday, April 24 2004 14:05 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
In the midst of exit polls predicting a closer-than-expected race, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam leader Chandrababu Naidu tonight (Apr 23, 2004) said if the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) doesn't get a majority it will sit in the Opposition and ruled out any moves to form a Third Front in such a situation like in 1996.
Asked if the NDA was unable to form the Government, what will be his strategy, Naidu told Doordarshan, "No, this is not possible. But if this happens, then we will sit in the Opposition," according to a Doordarshan release.
On whether he was prepared to consider going in for a third front like in 1996, he said, "There is no such plan. I am fully confident that NDA will form the Government at the Centre."
About the emergence of a third front this time and whether he would like in 1996 play the role of a 'king maker', Naidu said, "That was an experiment which failed. I have no intention of any new experiment. I am confident that NDA will get clear majority."
