New Delhi: In the midst of a debate whether Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has chosen a successor to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani has said that the responsibility given to him "has a meaning".

"There is no need for a successor... We have a party and there are many people in it...although it has given me a responsibility and it has a meaning," he told Aaj Tak channel when asked whether a successor to Vajpayee has been decided.

On a possible tie-up with Mulayam Singh's Samajwadi Party (SP) after the elections, he indicated that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will get a clear majority and he did not see the possibility of such a situation.

"If such a need arises and any new friend wants to join us, then we will decide about that," he added.
