Cong scoffs at Imam's call to Muslims to back BJP
Sunday, April 25 2004 15:48 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Congress today (April 25, 2004) pooh-poohed Shahi Imam of Delhi Jama Masjid's appeal to Muslims to support Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the coming Lok Sabha polls and said only result will speak about the influence he commands over the community.

"Whatever Bukhari said was his viewpoint. No comment on that. But what impact his appeal would make on the community would be known in the coming days," party spokesman Anand Sharma told reporters when asked to comment on Shahi Imam's appeal to Muslims to give a chance to BJP as secular parties have treated them as vote bank.
