Kalam seeks report on Haryana Governor's speech Monday, April 26 2004 14:22 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi:
Taking note of media reports that Haryana Governor Babu Parmanand had in a speech last week called for supporting Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, President A P J Abdul Kalam has sought a report from the Home Ministry.
Official sources said Kalam has written to the Home Ministry asking them to submit a report on the speech in which Parmanand reportedly praised the Prime Minister and lashed out at the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) Government in Haryana and the Congress.
Following the President's directive, the Home Ministry has asked the secretary to the Haryana Governor to furnish the details forthwith, the sources said.
The President strongly feels that Governors should rise above partisan politics and should at no time be seen to be favouring any political party.
According to media reports, the Haryana Governor had told a gathering of Dalits in Rewari on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti that Vajpayee brought peace and he should be supported.
