Legislation on Ram temple not in NDA agenda: Naidu Monday, April 26 2004 12:19 Hrs (IST)
Coimbatore:
Reiterating the party's stand to abide by the court verdict or solve through negotiations the issue of Ram temple at Ayodhya, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president M Venkaiah Naidu today (Apr 26, 2004) said it was not possible to bring in a legislation to facilitate temple construction.
It (a legislation) is not possible, since it is not included in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) agenda, Naidu told a press conference.
Replying to a question on the reported commitment given by about 140 members of the dissolved Lok Sabha including BJP, to Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Naidu said, "I don't know the exact number of the members given the commitment. But as far as BJP is concerned, Ayodhya issue can be solved either by the court verdict or through negotiations.
"It is wrong. How can it be, when there is consent from both the parties?" was his reply, to a question whether the construction of temple at Ayodhya would lead to communal violence, particularly from the Muslim community.
