Militants attack Army camp in JK; 2 killed Tuesday, April 27 2004 21:52 Hrs (IST)
Jammu:
Militants today (April 27, 2004) attacked an Army camp hurling grenades and firing on it and engaged the guards in an exchange of fire in which one ultra and a jawan were killed and three others injured in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Official sources said militants, numbering two or three, attacked the camp in Thanamandi around 17:00 hours (IST).
Troops guarding the camp retaliated and in the following gunbattle, one militant and a jawan were killed and three security personnel injured.
The injured were admitted to hospital.
One AK rifle, four magazines, 100 rounds and one sniper rifle were recovered from the spot, the sources said.
A person identified himself as Kamran, spokesman of Jamat-ul-Mujahideen, telephoned PTI and claimed that the outfit carried out the attack on the Army camp.
Militants also triggered a landmine explosion in Surankote area of Poonch district this afternoon without causing any casualty.
