Hemant Lakhani's trial date set for November
Tuesday, April 27 2004 18:14 Hrs (IST)

Newark (New Jersey): Hemant Lakhani, a British citizen of Indian origin, accused of allegedly attempting to smuggle missiles into the US will stand trial by the end of this year.

According to a ruling the date was set for November 3 as the start of Lakhani's trial on charges of trying to provide support to terrorists and for selling arms without a license.

According to prosecutors, Lakhani agreed to deliver a missile to US agents posing as buyers after he obtained it from Russian agents posing as sellers.

He was arrested in Newark in August 2003. A co-conspirator charged with him, Moinuddeen Ahmed Hameed, 40, an Indian citizen residing in Malaysia, pleaded guilty earlier this month to conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money transmitting business, and will testify against Lakhani.
